A Few Showers Tomorrow: Rain More Widespread Thursday/Friday
SUNNY DAY: Nothing but sunshine across Alabama this afternoon; temperatures are generally in the mid to upper 50s. Tonight will be mostly fair with a low in the 30-35 degree range early tomorrow morning.
Clouds return to the state tomorrow as a weak cold front approaches from the north, and it could trigger a few scattered showers tomorrow afternoon over North Alabama, generally north of I-20. Moisture will be limited, so rain amounts will be light and spotty… South Alabama will stay dry. Tomorrow’s high will be in the mid 50s.
REST OF THE WEEK: Wednesday will be dry with a mix of sun and clouds; the high will be in the 55-60 degree range. Then, wet weather returns Thursday and Friday due to a stalled surface front, and deep moisture moving northward into the state. The sky will be cloudy both days with periods of rain; amounts of 1 to 2 inches are likely. No risk of severe storms, and probably no thunder. The high Thursday will be close to 60, followed by low to mid 50s Friday.
THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: Saturday looks rain-free with a partly sunny sky… the high will be in the low 50s. Clouds return Sunday, and a few scattered showers are possible by afternoon. Rain seems more likely Sunday night into Monday as another front will be approaching.
REST OF NEXT WEEK: After the chance of rain Monday, for now the rest of next week looks dry with seasonal temperatures; highs will be mostly in the 50s. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.
ON THIS DATE IN 1971: A warm Santa Ana condition brought a 95 degree reading to Los Angeles, the highest January temperature on record. It was 95 degrees in Palm Springs, the highest temperature on record for January as well.
ON THIS DATE IN 1973: The first tornado death of the year north of Corey, Louisiana during the afternoon hours. Although a girl was killed when a tenant farm was destroyed, a baby received only minor injuries when it was carried 300 to 400 yards by the tornado.
