Another Threat Of Strong To Severe Thunderstorms Ahead

| March 27, 2021 @ 6:47 am

MORE STORMS: We have another threat of strong to severe thunderstorms across Alabama over the weekend. A line of severe storms will form tonight over the Mid-South… SPC has defined an “enhanced risk” (level 3/5) over parts of Arkansas, Tennessee, North Mississippi, and the northwest corner of Alabama.
This line of storms will move through Alabama after midnight tonight and into the daytime hours Sunday.

SPC OUTLOOKS: The “Day 1” outlook is valid through 7:00 a.m. CT tomorrow… the “Day 2” outlook is valid after 7:00 a.m. tomorrow. Be aware of that as you look at the maps.

TIMING: High resolution data shows the line reaching the Shoals area around 2am… I-59 (Tuscaloosa, Birmingham, Gadsden) around 6am… and Montgomery around 11am.

THREATS: Storms in the line will be capable of producing hail and damaging winds. A brief, isolated tornado is possible in spots.

RAIN: A flash flood watch has been issued for Lauderdale, Colbert, Franklin, Limestone, Lawrence, Madison, and Jackson counties, where rain amounts will be in the 1-2 inch range. Totals should be under one inch elsewhere.

PREPARE: While this is not a high end threat like the last two we have experienced, you still must be in a position to hear warnings. This will be a “middle of the night” event for North Alabama, meaning a NOAA Weather Radio is important to have.

Also, don’t use the “Do Not Disturb” feature on your phone since you don’t want to miss any push alerts.

If you get in a tornado warning polygon, please go to your safe place. No, we don’t expect the strong/violent, long track tornadoes with this event, but ANY tornado is serious.

Keep an eye on updates through the day.
