Warmer Days Ahead; Dry Through Early Next Week

SEVERE CLEAR: With a sun filled sky, temperatures are mostly in the mid to upper 50s this afternoon across Alabama. Tonight will be clear with a low in the 27-34 degree range.

Dry weather continues tomorrow through Friday with sunny mild afternoons and clear cool nights. Temperatures reach the low 60s tomorrow, followed by mid 60s Thursday and Friday.

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: The weather stays dry Saturday… with a partly sunny sky the high will be in the low 60s. A cold front will pass through the state Saturday night, mostly in dry fashion. There could be a sprinkle or flurry somewhere, but nothing meaningful is expected. Then, Sunday will be sharply colder… the sky becomes partly to mostly sunny with a high in the mid 40s.

NEXT WEEK: Dry weather continues Monday through Wednesday… the high Monday will be into low 50s. Then, we rise into the upper 50s Tuesday, followed by low 60s Wednesday. A weather system will bring rain back to the state, and maybe a few thunderstorms late Thursday into Friday. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

ON THIS DATE IN 1989: Mammoth traffic jams in the Los Angeles area as freak snow struck California. The snow was reported from the beaches of Malibu to the desert around Palm Springs.

ON THIS DATE IN 2005: Snow falls on the Jordanian capital and surrounding regions, blocking roads and closing schools. Parts of northern Iran and Tehran were paralyzed after being hit by several days of record snowfall, with dozens of flights canceled and critical roads also cut off.

ON THIS DATE IN 2010: Parts of the Tennessee Valley saw up to six inches of snow; heaviest snow was over much of Lauderdale County around Muscle Shoals.
