Midday Nowcast: Mainly Cloudy and Mild

REST OF TODAY: It remains mainly cloudy today, and there could still be a few areas of patchy drizzle across the Alabama landscape, but most of the rain is over for Alabama. Temperatures remain mild with upper 50s and lower 60s for much of North/Central Alabama. We note, the sky is clear across North Mississippi and that drier air will slip into Alabama the next 24 hours.

REST OF WEEK: The weather will be dry with plenty of sunshine, but temperatures will be on a cooling trend. Highs tomorrow will be in the upper 50s, followed by upper 40s Thursday and likely lower 40s by Friday. Morning lows will be below freezing by the end of the week.

THE “S” WORD: Social media is a buzz as we could see some snow flurries in Alabama later this week. An upper-level low will slide into the state from the north, and could bring some snow flurries to Northwest Alabama late Thursday. The upper low will hang around into Friday, so that means we will continue to mention the chance for some flurries flying in the air through the day on Friday. However, with surface temperatures in the 40s though: no accumulations expected. But, anytime flurries are flying in the Alabama sky, it creates some excitement.

WEEKEND WEATHER: It will be dry this weekend and Saturday looks sunny with highs in struggling to climb out of the 40s. Sunday will be sunny as well, and highs should make their way into the mid 50s for most locations. Morning lows will hovering around the freezing mark both mornings.

RAIN RETURNS: 2024 look to start off with another upper low moving through the state, as it does, some clouds and showers are expected, but at this time, nothing too heavy of widespread. It could also squeeze out some more snow flurries over the northern portions of the state before it exits Alabama on Tuesday. Highs to begin the new year will be in the 40s.

BOWL WEATHER: Weather looks dry and cool for the Music City Bowl in Nashville on Saturday with Auburn taking on Maryland. Game day highs will be in the 40s, as will the days leading up to the game. Lows will be in the upper 20s. Bama fans heading west will find warmer conditions for the Rose Bowl. Gameday highs will be in the middle 60s, with lows that morning in the middle 40s. Highs in the preceding week will be in the middle 60s as well, with lows also in the 40s.
