Midday Nowcast: Fantastic Friday with Sunshine in Full Supply

| April 12, 2024 @ 10:10 am

We are seeing tons of sunshine today across Alabama. Highs this afternoon are in the upper 60s and lower 70s, and we continue to have a northwest wind of 10-20 mph with higher gusts. Tonight will be clear and chilly with lows in the lower 40s.

BIRMINGHAM ALMANAC: For April 12th, the average high for Birmingham is 74° and the average low is 51°. The record high is 87° set in 1906, while the record low is 31° set in 1940. We average 0.17” of precipitation on this date, and the record value is 4.61” set in 1979.

ACROSS THE USA: A strong storm will bring a broad band of rain with embedded heavy showers and isolated thunderstorms in northwest Hawaii in the vicinity of Kauai that may produce flash flooding impacts through today. Heavy rain in northern New England may cause flash and minor river flooding impacts due to the combination of rainfall and recent snowmelt.

WONDERFUL WEEKEND: The weekend will be warm and dry, featuring lots of sunshine both Saturday and Sunday. Highs tomorrow will be near 80° with low to mid 80s on Sunday. Lows Sunday morning will be in the low to mid 50s.

NEXT WEEK: An upper ridge will set the stage for the warmest week so far this year with daily highs in the low to mid 80s. There could even be some upper 80s across South Alabama through the week. The ridge will also keep the big rain producers west and north of the Deep South and most of the week looks dry. However, a few showers are possible late Wednesday and into Thursday, but this doesn’t look like a severe storm setup at this time.
