STABLE AIR TAKES OVER: A nice change for Alabama today in the wake of the strong to severe storms that passed through yesterday. It should be hard to find a decent cloud in the Alabama sky today; we will rise from the 35-45 degree range this morning to a high in the low 60s today with low humidity. You won’t find any of those low 80s today… hard to believe the high in Tuscaloosa yesterday was 83, which was a record for February 28. Birmingham’s high was 81, which tied the record high.

MID-WEEK: Look for sunny pleasant days and clear cool nights through Thursday… the high tomorrow will be close to 70, followed by low 70s Thursday.

FRIDAY AND THE WEEKEND: A strong southerly flow sets up Friday with some increase in clouds and the risk of a few widely scattered showers. Then, another rather vigorous system will impact our state over the weekend. See the Weather Xtreme video for complete details…

The GFS is a little slower… suggest the prime threat of showers and storms will come from late Saturday afternoon through Saturday night and into Sunday morning. The surface low and better dynamics are north of the state. However, the ECMWF shows a more classic severe weather look, with the surface low running from near Little Rock to Indianapolis, with the main threat of strong to severe storms Saturday night.

We will keep a close eye on the situation and adjust the forecast as needed as the weekend gets closer. Cooler and drier air moves into the state late Sunday into early next week.

LONG RANGE/VOODOO LAND: Still no sign of any really serious late season cold snap for the next 15 days as the NAO remains neutral to positive. See the Weather Xtreme video for more long range ideas.

ATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
