HIGHS HOLD IN THE 80s: We are projecting afternoon highs in the 81 to 86 degree range through Friday, close to record levels, and about 15 degrees above average for late March in Alabama. Low level moisture will slowly increase, and you might see a shower or two on radar each afternoon, but they will be very isolated, and most communities will remain dry with a partly sunny sky.

RAIN ON SATURDAY? We introduce the question mark since we now have relatively dry runs of both the GFS and the NAM for Saturday, showing a much more benign upper pattern. The ECMWF, which remains pretty wet on Saturday, is now an outlier. If the 12Z runs keep this trend up, we can begin to scale back the chance of rain Saturday, which would be great news for the big outdoor events including the Indy Car event at the Barber Motorsports Park, and the Tuscaloosa Air Show. For now we will keep a chance of showers and storms in the forecast Saturday with a high in the upper 70s… check the afternoon discussion and video for the verdict on the 12Z model runs.

Sunday still looks mostly warm and dry with a high at or just over 80 degrees, with a partly sunny sky and just a slight risk of a shower.

NEXT WEEK: Model madness rules, making for a low confidence forecast. Climatology still support the idea of an early April cold snap, and I say it is still on the table. But, the GFS and the ECMWF now show a less amplified pattern for next week, reducing any threat for a frost or freeze threat here. See the Weather Xtreme video for details on long range ideas and thoughts.
