Storms Increase

| March 30, 2012 @ 1:04 pm

NWS Huntsville issues a severe thunderstorm warning for Lawrence County in Northwest Alabama… mainly due to the possibility of large hail. Dime to nickel sized hail has bee reported in the storm.

Elsewhere, showers and storms continue to increase statewide. Widespread severe weather is not expected. Some point about weather we expect for the next few days…

*Most places will see rain amounts today of 1/2 inch, but isolated amounts over one inch are possible where stronger storms develop.

*Conditions do not favor tornado tornado formation today. If we have any additional severe thunderstorm warnings, more than likely it will be due to the threat of hail.

*Most of the showers and storms will end in the 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. time frame this evening; a few could linger until midnight.

*We will need to mention some risk of scattered, mostly afternoon and evening storms tomorrow, much like a summer day. The chance of any one spot getting wet tomorrow afternoon will be about one in three. Below is model output (RPM) valid at 5:00 p.m. local time tomorrow. The showers will be random in nature.

\

*Sunday looks mostly dry and very warm with a high in the mid 80s.

*Still some risk of strong to severe storms Tuesday of next week, but poor model consistency still makes it impossible to be really specific with details.
