Cooler Air Blows In Tomorrow Night

THE ALABAMA STORY: It is another story of a bright blue sky today with humidity that is not bad at all and temperatures that are fairly comfortable. We are going to see a whole lot more on the thermometer that will be welcomed and not much chance of any significant showers and thunderstorms for the next several days. That does not mean that there will not be any. We have introduced just a few showers Saturday afternoon and possibly a thunderstorm Saturday night. A few of those showers will linger into Sunday morning. After that we expect dry pleasant weather until a few thunderstorms may show up next Tuesday.
A LOOK AT THE WEATHER MAPS: It has been very cold in the Upper Midwest lately and a lot of snow considering it is so early in the season. Cool air from that region continues to push southward. A stalled front was near Louisville and Tulsa this morning. By Saturday morning, that front will be pressing close to Birmingham and by Saturday evening all the way down to Mobile and by Sunday it should be all the way down into North and Central Florida with a big high-pressure system over the center of the country. All of this means that more cool air will flow into Alabama from the northwest. Indeed, by next Thursday still another front will move through.
SPORTS WEATHER: For Saturday’s Fred’s 250 at the Talladega Superspeedway, it will be mostly cloudy with a few showers during the race. The chance is about 20-30 percent, so rain should not be a major issue. Temperatures will be in the 70s. Some light rain or drizzle may linger during the morning Sunday, but it should be over by the time the Good Sam Roadside Assistance 500 begins. Great weather tonight for high school football in almost all sections of Alabama. It will be mostly clear with temperatures in the 70s at kickoff and the 60s by the second half. At 11:00 tomorrow morning, the kickoff in Auburn between the Arkansas Razorbacks and Auburn, clouds will increase during the game and there is just a slight chance of a shower by the fourth quarter. There is a pretty good chance the entire game will be dry despite some cloudiness. It should be about 73 degrees at kickoff and 75 at the end of the game.
ON THE BACKYARD THERMOMETER: Look for some chilly temperatures over the next several days. By Sunday we expect a high of only 63 and 67 on Monday. Even from next Tuesday through Thursday highs will only be in the 70s with a lot of sunshine and lower humidity. It looks like Monday morning still shapes up to be our coolest morning with lows generally 40 to 43 here in Central Alabama, but some 30s in the Northeast Alabama valleys, which are always cooler.
USA NOTES: An unusual start to some significant snow over the Upper Midwest. In the next 24 hours, more snow is forecast from Montana, Northern Minnesota, Northern Wisconsin and Upper Michigan and heavy snow in parts of Wyoming. The State of Alaska is already over half covered by snow. Temperature extremes in the lower 48 states in the last 24 hours included 107 Thursday at Bullhead City, Arizona and a low this morning of 11 in Stanley, Idaho.
