WARM SPRING DAY: Temperatures are mostly in the 80s across Alabama this afternoon with a good supply of sunshine. We note a few isolated showers and storms over far South Alabama… those will fade quickly after sunset.
WARM SPRING WEATHER: Alabama’s weather will stay quiet through mid-week with partly to mostly sunny days and only isolated afternoon and evening showers or storms. Highs will hold in the mid 80s, about 5-7 degrees above average for late April.
We’re waking up to some patchy dense fog, especially across West Alabama, mainly in the Tombigbee River basin area. A Dense Fog Advisory is in effect through 9 AM — so if you’re traveling, allow a little extra time and drive carefully. After the fog lifts, we’ll enjoy a pretty warm day with a few isolated storms possible later on.
RADAR CHECK: An organized batch of rain and thunderstorms continues to push into West and North Alabama early this afternoon ahead of a short wave in the upper atmosphere. The rain will continue to progress across the state this afternoon and early tonight mainly over the northern 2/3 of the state.
RADAR CHECK: At daybreak we have scattered showers over the northern third of Alabama… temperatures are in the 60s. Expect a mix of sun and clouds today with a few showers and storms developing this afternoon and early tonight over the northern and central counties.
RADAR CHECK: Showers and storms are widely scattered across Alabama this afternoon, but a few spots are seeing heavy rain and frequent lighting. A decent part of the state is dry with temperatures mostly in the upper 70s and low 80s.
RADAR CHECK: We have scattered areas of light rain across Alabama this morning, otherwise the sky is mostly cloudy at daybreak with temperatures in the 60s. The high today will be in the 76-82 degree range with random, scattered showers and storms forming again this afternoon and early tonight
RADAR CHECK: We have a classic case of random, scattered showers and thunderstorms across Alabama this afternoon, mainly over the northern half of the state. A few strong storms are producing small hail, but they are well below traditional severe limits.
HUMID AIR: Humidity levels will stay elevated across Alabama today, and we expect more scattered showers and storms to form this afternoon and early tonight. Most of them will be over the northern half of the state, where odds of any one spot seeing rain are around 40-50 percent.
RADAR CHECK: Large areas of rain and a few thunderstorms continue to move across the northern 2/3 of Alabama this afternoon. Some communities are seeing heavy rain, and we have small hail in a few spots. South Alabama is generally dry with only isolated showers.
RADAR CHECK: Scattered showers and thunderstorms persist over North Alabama early this morning ahead of a stalled surface front near the Alabama/Tennessee border.
RADAR CHECK: We have scattered showers and thunderstorms across the northern half of Alabama at mid-afternoon, but much of the state is enjoying a partly sunny, warm day with temperatures in the 80s.
RADAR CHECK: This morning we are watching a band of showers and storms lined up ahead of a surface front from near Nashville to Oxford, MS to Monroe, LA. This front will stall out later today near the northwest corner of Alabama; it will bring some rain to mainly the northern half of the state. It won’t rain everywhere, and most of South Alabama will stay dry.
Easter Weekend will be dry and warm across the state. However, we’ll have to keep the rain gear handy for the work week. And, as always, we’ll be watching the radar like a hawk. Here is what I got for today’s briefing.
