At 507 PM CST, severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from near Evergreen to 7 miles north of Kolola Springs to near Tibbee, moving northeast at 60 mph.
As we are starting to approach the 5:00 pm hour across North/Central Alabama, we see that this first wave of rain and thunderstorms have stayed well-behaved at this point, but look back to our west over the eastern portions of Mississippi, we see a Tornado Warning in effect for portions of Choctaw, Oktibbeha, Winston, Webster, and Clay counties until 4:45 pm.
At 305 PM CST, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along a line extending from Graysville to Mulga to Concord. Movement was northeast at 55 mph.
A Tornado Watch has been issued for the western portions of North/Central Alabama through 9:00 pm tonight.
As we have entered into the start of the main window for the potential of strong to severe thunderstorms, we see that thunderstorms have started to build over the western parts of North/Central Alabama.
With the start of 2020, it’s a good time to look back on some of the good things that happened in 2019.
As we approach the noon hour across North/Central Alabama, we continue to have mainly cloudy skies across the area with some scattered light shower activity over the western and northwestern parts of the area.

The Storm Prediction Center has upgraded the western and northwestern parts of Central Alabama to a Slight Risk for severe storms throughout the day today.
We have the potential for a few stronger to severe storms in Central Alabama today, but cooler and dry air moves in to end off 2019.
