A strong to marginally severe storm cannot be ruled out for the remainder of the evening producing wind gusts of 50 to 60 mph. However, coverage of severe activity is expected to be too low to continue any watches. Therefore, the Tornado Watch has been allowed to expire.
We continue to have a couple of bands of showers and thunderstorms in North/Central Alabama, with another band starting to move into the northwestern parts of the area.
At 628 PM CDT, a severe thunderstorm was located near Guntersville, moving east at 40 mph.
At 619 PM CDT, a severe thunderstorm was located over southeastern Huntsville, moving northeast at 25 mph.
Alabama Power has begun replacing old streetlights in Mobile as part of a joint project to increase neighborhood security and visibility.
At 549 PM CDT, a severe thunderstorm was located 8 miles southeast of Falkville, or 10 miles northeast of Cullman, moving east at 45 mph.
The FlashFlood Watch is canceled. Flooding is no longer expected to pose a threat.
At 527 PM CDT, severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from near Bluff to near Millport, moving east at 40 mph.
At 525 PM CDT, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located near Sardis, or 13 miles southwest of Hartselle, moving east at 30 mph.
At 521 PM CDT, a severe thunderstorm was located near Lynn, moving east at 45 mph.
The threat for a few tornadoes persists across northern Alabama, and may eventually develop northeastward toward Chattanooga before weakening this evening.
At 515 PM CDT, a severe thunderstorm was located over Sardis, or 12 miles northeast of Arley, moving northeast at 30 mph.
At 513 PM CDT, a severe thunderstorm was located over Sardis, or 12 miles north of Arley, moving east at 25 mph.
NWS Huntsville updates Tornado Watch (expands area to include DeKalb, Jackson, Marshall, continues Colbert, Cullman, Franklin, Lauderdale, Lawrence, Limestone, Madison, Morgan until 8:00 pm tonight.
