Updated Severe Thunderstorm Watch until 7 PM CDT — Changes in Effect
Cancelled counties: Clay, Coosa, and Randolph are no longer included in the watch area. New counties added: Barbour and Pike have been added to the watch.
RADAR CHECK: Most of Alabama is rain-free at daybreak with only a few isolated, light showers near the Tennessee state line. But later we expect a line of showers and a few thunderstorms to form along a cold front that will be passing southward through the state today. Best chance of rain this morning will be over the northern counties, then shifting into South Alabama this afternoon.
RADAR CHECK: The large rain mass that was over Alabama this morning has moved on to the east; we have just a few spotty, widely scattered showers on radar at mid-afternoon. With a mix of sun and clouds temperatures are only in the 70s over most of the state, a good 10-15 degrees below average for late May.
RADAR CHECK: A large mass of rain covers Alabama early this morning as the unsettled weather pattern continues. Rain will diminish later this morning, and high resolution models suggest a decent part of the afternoon will be dry.
DRY AFTERNOON: Most of Alabama is rain-free for a change this afternoon; with a partly sunny sky temperatures are mostly in the 80s. High resolution models suggest thunderstorms could push through parts of the state tonight, mainly the southern counties.
RADAR CHECK: A few showers are on radar early this morning over North Alabama… from near Dora to Fort Payne at daybreak. Expect a mix of sun and clouds today with a risk of scattered showers and storms, but rain won’t be as widespread as yesterday, and a decent part of the day will be dry with highs in the 80s.
