Heat index values are ranging from 102°-108° across the state. Anything over 105° is in the danger range for North and Central Alabama, for that reason a Heat Advisory has been issued for portions of Alabama.
Fort Rucker soldiers and members of the U.S. Army Aviation Center of Excellence (AVCOE) command team hosted veterans from the Command Sgt. Maj. Bennie G. Adkins State Veterans Home in Enterprise at the dining facility (DFAC) on Fort Rucker for the monthly Legacy Lunch on July 2.
HOT: Temperatures will rise into the mid 90s across much of Alabama this afternoon with just a few isolated showers and storms around. Afternoon storms will be a little greater in number tomorrow and Friday as a broad tropical low moves into Louisiana, highest coverage will be over the southern counties.
RADAR CHECK: Most of Alabama is simply hot and dry this afternoon with temperatures generally in the low to mid 90s, very close to seasonal averages. This is mid-July, after all. Most of the scattered storms are across the southeast part of the state in a broad band from near Phenix City and Eufaula to Dothan and Geneva. Those showers will fade after sunset.
Alabama families can save money on back-to-school essentials during the state’s 20th annual back-to-school sales tax holiday, which begins at 12:01 a.m. on Friday, July 18, and runs through midnight on Sunday, July 20.

The season for outdoor entertaining has finally arrived! From Memorial Day pool parties to gatherings over BBQ to catching lightning bugs on hot summer nights, the fun shouldn’t have to end when the sun goes down.

MID-JULY WEATHER: Classic summer weather continues across Alabama through Wednesday with partly sunny, hot, humid days and a few afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms in random spots. Highs will be in the mid 90s in most locations; some of the hottest weather we have experienced so far this summer.
Scattered storms will dot Alabama this afternoon, but the real story is the rising heat and humidity set to intensify through midweek.
