MUGGY SUMMER DAYS: We have some pretty classic summer weather for Alabama and the Deep South through the weekend. Partly sunny days, highs in the 88-92 degree range, and the usual risk of “scattered, mostly afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms”.
RADAR CHECK: Showers are almost impossible to find across Alabama this afternoon; the rain overnight last night and early this morning helped to stabilize the atmosphere. Heat levels are also down; many communities are only in the mid to upper 80s with a partly to mostly sunny sky.

Heat Advisories continue today for portions of Alabama as heat index values surge above 105°. Along with the heat, we have to deal with the threat of strong to severe storms due to the high instability values across the state.
RADAR CHECK: A disturbance moving westward on the south side of the upper high to the north of Alabama brought widespread rain and storms to the state overnight. Rain is still falling over much of North Alabama at daybreak; some southeast counties are still seeing some rain as well.
Severe Thunderstorm Watch extended until 3 AM for 8 Central Alabama counties, including Selma, Clanton, Wetumpka, and Demopolis. Damaging winds and hail remain possible.
A line of severe storms is moving into Dallas, Lowndes, and Montgomery counties with 60 mph wind gusts, but weakening is expected soon.
Severe thunderstorms with 60 mph winds are sweeping across Pike and Bullock counties this evening. Warning continues until 10 PM.
A severe thunderstorm over Centreville is producing 60 mph wind gusts and small hail. Warning is in effect until 9:45 PM.
A dangerous storm over Bridgeport is producing ping pong ball size hail and 60 mph wind gusts—warning continues until 5:45 PM.
A severe storm with 60 mph winds and half-dollar size hail is moving through northeastern Jackson and DeKalb counties—warning in effect until 5:15 PM.
A slow-moving severe storm producing quarter-size hail and 60 mph winds is threatening Jackson and DeKalb counties—warning in effect until 4:30 PM.
RADAR CHECK: Most of Alabama is simply hot and dry this afternoon, but isolated showers and storms have formed. Heavier storms for the next few hours will be capable of producing lots of lightning and strong gusty winds; they will fade tonight after sunset.
