Scott Martin is an operational meteorologist, professional graphic artist, musician, husband, and father. Not only is Scott a member of the National Weather Association, but he is also the Central Alabama Chapter of the NWA president. Scott is also the co-founder of Racecast Weather, which provides forecasts for many racing series across the USA. He also supplies forecasts for the BassMaster Elite Series events including the BassMaster Classic.
We have rain moving out of the area today, which will allow us to have a decent Sunday. Unfortunately, rain and storms return on Monday evening, and strong winds look to be an issue.
The first week of 2024 looks to be an active one as we’ll have a couple of chances for rain. Don’t fear about New Year’s plans as we’ll be dry for the ringing in of the new year.
As we have hit the midday hour on this last Saturday of 2023, we continue to be covered with clouds over much of North/Central Alabama, but the back edge is not that far away.
It will be a mixed bag of weather for the first week of 2024 as we’ll have sun and rain, with temperatures doing a rollercoaster ride from the very cool side to almost mild. Will it be dry to ring in the New Year?
The latest from radar is not really showing any snow falling, but that doesn’t mean that there may be some flakes mixed in with the light rain. The best news as of now is that there are no travel issues being mentioned, which means the forecast is right on target.
It will be a really nice day across Central Alabama today, but a system will move through the area that will bring some rain over the Christmas Holiday. After that, we dry out with declining temperatures.

Showers leave the area today leading us to a dry work week ahead. Unfortunately, showers look to return for the Christmas holiday.
While we have a loud line of rain and storms moving through the northern half of the state, the good news is that no warnings are in effect. However, the latest mesoscale discussion states that the treat for severe storms continue.
A new tornado watch is likely for parts of central into southern Alabama within the next couple of hours. The exact timing of the watch will be somewhat dependent on whether cellular convection matures ahead of the line.
Damaging gusts appear to be the main threat, though a tornado or two cannot be ruled out over the next few hours.
The Storm Prediction Center has just issued a new Tornado Watch effective immediately for portions of North/Central Alabama until 2 am Sunday morning.
While the good news is that the Enhanced Risk has been allowed to be dropped, the Slight Risk has been expanded east and south to a line from Roanoke to Shorter to Fort Deposit.
At 707 PM CST, a severe thunderstorm was located near Killen, or 12 miles east of Muscle Shoals, moving east at 45 mph.
