Scattered Thunderstorms Saturday, High Heat Returns Sunday
Rain chances taper off after Saturday’s storms, but heat and humidity ramp up quickly across Alabama on Sunday.
RADAR CHECK: Scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms are moving northward across Alabama this afternoon… stronger storms are producing heavy rain and lots of lightning. Away from the showers we have a mix of sun and clouds with temperatures generally in the 88-92 degree range.
There’s no better way to bring family and friends together than with food, football and the outdoors. With fall just around the corner, now is an excellent time to start planning your outdoor kitchen.
DOG DAYS: This is the middle of July in Alabama. Meaning, of course, our weather will be hot and humid for the foreseeable future with the usual risk of a pop up, splash and dash afternoon shower or thunderstorm in a few spots.
RADAR CHECK: As you expect on a summer afternoon in Alabama… we have scattered showers and storms in progress this afternoon. They are most numerous over the southern half of the state, and are moving northward on the east side of the broad tropical low over Louisiana
JULY IN ALABAMA: This is the time of the year when the weather just doesn’t change much. You can say “hot and humid with an afternoon thunderstorm in spots” and be right almost every day. And, that is our situation through next week.
RADAR CHECK: While North Alabama is simply hot and dry today, we have scattered showers and thunderstorms over the southern half of the state… moving westward around a broad tropical low over the western Florida Panhandle. Where the sun is out, temperatures are in the low to mid 80s… a few spots have dropped into the upper 70s thanks to showers over South Alabama.
Heat index values are ranging from 102°-108° across the state. Anything over 105° is in the danger range for North and Central Alabama, for that reason a Heat Advisory has been issued for portions of Alabama.
